There are a lot of different Chinese LED lighting manufacturers, and the quality of their products varies. It is not easy to enter the global market, especially the US market, which is full of obstacles and subject to various quality standards. Let's sort out what certifications are required for Chinese LED lighting products to be exported to the US market?
There are three main standards for LED lighting to enter the US market: safety standards, electromagnetic compatibility standards, and energy-saving standards
The safety requirements for LED lamps in the US market mainly include UL, CSA, ETL, etc. The main certification and testing standards include UL 8750, UL 1598, UL 153, UL 1993, UL 1574, UL 2108, UL 1310, UL 1012, etc. Among them, UL8750 is the safety requirement for LED light sources used in lighting products, including requirements for the use environment, mechanical structure, electrical mechanism, etc.
The electromagnetic compatibility requirement for LED lighting products in the US market is FCC certification. The certification test standard is FCC PART18 and the certification type is DOC, which means Declaration of Conformity. Compared with the EU CE certification, the biggest difference between FCC testing and EU CE certification is that it only has EMI requirements but no EMS requirements. There are two test items in total: radiated emission and conducted emission, and the test frequency range and limit requirements of these two test items are also different from those of EU CE certification
Another important certification is the ENERGY STAR certification. The ENERGY STAR certification for lighting products is based on the UL and FCC certifications of the products, and mainly tests and certifies the optical performance and lumen maintenance life of the products. Therefore, the three major certifications that Chinese LED lighting products must meet to enter the US market are UL certification, FCC certification, and ENERGY STAR certification.
